The story:
Krayden partnered with a leading provider of armor protection for ground vehicles, boats, and personnel to tackle the issue of window delamination on a military vehicle due to the exposure to heat and UV rays. The vehicles were already in use, so we had to find a solution that tests to the military specification needed, and would stand the test of time. Enter CONAP® EN-5317 by ELANTAS, which provided excellent UV and Temperature resistance, with the flexibility in the cured product to withstand the significant compression forces in field use.
What is the application? | Replace “delaminated” windows in Military HUMVEE type vehicles. Exposure to heat and UV rays in the field are the reasons for the “delamination”. The company will remove the damaged windows and replace them. An adhesive was needed to bond or pot the window in the door frame. |
What issues was the end user having? | A butyl rubber product was used to bond/pot the window . This product did not withstand the heat and UV factors associated with field exposure and created the delamination issue. |
What material was used to solve the issue? | CONAP® EN-5317 by Elantas |
Why was the material chosen for the application? | Excellent UV and temperature resistance properties combined with flexibility in the cured product that is able to withstand compression forces in the field use. |
Why did this material work better than other materials? | Performed better vs competition with UV, temperature, and compression resistance. |
Was the material lower cost than other materials? |
No, Customer was willing to pay a premium for improved performance. |
Savings to end user in cost of material or process improvement? Time, $ or both? | Process improvements for use in field application. Will vastly improve the lifespan of the windows, and protect its inhabitants. |
What industry/market was this material used in? | Military |
