The story:
A global household appliance customer partnered with Krayden and Humiseal to solve a vibration and humidity issue that also had to look good to the end consumer (basically had to be soft and white). The solution was to use Humiseal UV40, which was more expensive than the previous material, BUT the cure time, production time, quality output and material compatibility vastly improved the process, saving significant money in the long run.
What is the application? | The main control board on a hand Power tool (SB&D Drill) potting. |
What issues was the end user having? | A customer is currently using a silicone base material that is being used as potting to protect the main control board and trigger against high vibration and humidity as well. |
What material was used to solve the issue? | Humiseal UV40 – There is no issue on the product application and end-user needs. The real situation will be on the production floor where the run and rate was affecting the outputs and the space to let the applies units to dry. This will demand big storage containers, so they requested to have a fast cure material that allowed to complete the demand per day. |
Why was the material chosen for the application? | The end customer needed to have a white colored potting application, soft material like silicone to support any mechanical stress or vibration, so Humiseal supported me and broke the paradigm changing the original formulation to have the product as soft as need and the most important was to change the color to an off white allowing to cure as any other UV clear material keeping their original properties. |
Why did this material work better than other materials? | The customer had all the UV cure systems, so the run and rates were important even the product price, then the UV white potting fulfill all stress test as the silicone one. |
Did the material improve the process? | Yes, based on the UV Cure system, it has compatible with the current UV40 application. |
If So, how? | Cure time and material compatibility, the formulation started with UV40 Gel, then they modified the viscosity and added the White pigment to be a special application that came from another customer. |
What industry/market was this material used in? | Can be used on all White Goods and industrial applications as well, since the material based is UV40 formulation this can be used on automotive too. |
Was this material lower cost than other materials? | No, this product is now more expensive than the RTV application, so they identified and cost all the current cure time and production floor area to determine will be better to use the UV material instead of the previous silicon material. |
Savings to end user in the cost of material or process improvement? Time, $ or both? | Both, since the right material on a proper application and quantity, they assure every single application Is a good sell, no claims about battery holder corrosion or failure, keeping the process up and running. |
