The all-new, single component, solvent free, Permabond JP217801 Cationic Epoxy is designed to bond a wide variety of substrates including plastic, metal, ceramic, and glass substrates. The innovative material is composed of a cationic single component epoxy, and it will cure in shadow areas. JP217801 offers little to no shrinkage during cure and little to low odor. When dispensed, its appearance is a clear, colorless liquid.
Permabond Cationic Epoxy JP217801 is a new concept product available from Permabond that combines the features of a UV curable resin and epoxy resin. The two features allow the Cationic epoxy to provide a non-yellowing, clear adhesive well suited to bond a wide variety of materials. It can even bond opaque substrates where UV light cannot reach. Viscosity of Permabond JP217801 at room temperature is 4,000-5,000 mPa.s (cP). The epoxy is abrasion and chemical resistant and has a tack-free finish.
Permabond JP217801 Cationic Epoxy Features and Benefits:
- Single component with no mixing required
- Low odor
- Little or no shrinkage during cure
- Solvent free
- Clear in appearance
- Bonds metal, ceramic, plastic, and glass
- Tack-free finish
- Cures in shadow areas
Typical Curing time begins after using a lower power 8Mw/cm² UV LED torch for 15 seconds and assembling the two substrates together. Total time for cure to handling strength is 15 minutes. Permabond JP217801 will fully cure in 24 hours at 23°C. Cure wavelength should be between 365 -295 nm. Storage temperature is 2 to 7°C (35 to 45°). Shear strength of the cured adhesive (mild steel) is 6-7 mm² (870-1000psi). Shear strength of cured resin (PMMA) is 0.5 – 1 N/mm² (70-45psi) per ISO4587.
Permabond JP217801 is not recommended to be used in contact with strong oxidizing materials and polar solvent. The epoxy however, will withstand a solvent wash without losing the bond strength. Store Permabond JP217801 Cationic Epoxy between the temperatures of 2 to 7°C (35 to 45°F). More information can be found on the Permabond JP217801 Safety Data Sheet.
Apply Permabond JP217801 to one surface of the substrate and expose the adhesive to 365-395 wavelength UV light for 15 seconds. The resin should still be wet when you assemble the two joints together. If it has already skinned over, the epoxy has been exposed to the UV light too long. Clamp the two joints and leave it for approximately 15 minutes or until it has reached handling strength. Full cure will take 24 hours at 23°C.
