LORD 306 is a general purpose, high viscosity, non-sag epoxy adhesive. This innovative adhesive conforms to the military specification of MIL-1-24456 and can be heat cured or room temperature cured. The product performs at temperatures from -34 to 121 degrees Celsius. It is an adhesive system that is used for applications that require gap filling or non-sag characteristics on vertical surfaces.
LORD 306 Epoxy is a two part, low shrinkage, low water absorption durable adhesive. This material provides load bearing properties equal to or greater than the materials being bonded. It performs at a high standard bearing environmental elements by resisting moisture, sunlight and weathering. LORD 306 is also resistant to alkalis, dilute acids, solvents, greases and oils. Visual appearance of the resin is a gray paste and the hardener is an off-white paste. When properly mixed together, it creates a gray paste.
The two components should be mixed together properly until there is a uniform color and consistency. Working time is approximately 1 to 2 hours at a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius. This time will shorten because of heat buildup due to an exothermic reaction between the resin and hardener. A full strength cure will take approximately 24 to 48 hours with an ambient temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. Bondline temperatures should never exceed a temperature of 162 degrees Celsius. Heat cure of LORD 306 will produce the highest impact resistance and bond strength. Once this adhesive is cured it can be sanded, filed, machined or handled the same way as a light metal.
It is important to understand the proper storage and handling methods of LORD 306 Epoxy adhesive. Shelf life of this advanced material is two years from date of shipment when stored between 4 and 27 degrees Celsius in its original, tightly sealed container. Clean excess adhesive on the equipment and substrates with hot water and detergent or an organic solvent such as ketones. If the epoxy adhesive is already cured, then it should be heated to a temperature of 204 degrees Celsius to soften to be more easily removed. A few epoxy strippers may be used to remove the material.
