Loctite 956 is a low viscosity, two component, room temperature cure, epoxy paste adhesive. This advanced adhesive is well suited for repair applications including laminating, injection and coating. It was previously known as Hysol EA 956. Both part A and B are an amber color and the viscosity will be 162 Poise once both are mixed together. Mix ratio is 100 of part A by weight to 58 of part B by weight. Once mixed completely together, the density of the material is 1.15 g/ml.

A 450 gram mass of Loctite EA 956 will have a pot life of 30 minutes at 25 degrees Celsius. When mixing the two components, it is very important to have the correct ratio and that it is mixed thoroughly. Heat buildup during and after mixing is normal. Mixing quantities greater than 250 grams is dangerous and may cause uncontrolled decomposition of the mixed adhesive. It is strongly recommended to use smaller quantities to decrease the chance of heat buildup.
When applying Loctite 956, all bonding surfaces need to be clean, dried and properly prepared. The two substrates need to be held together until the adhesive has set. Full cure will take approximately 5 to 7 days at room temperature. At 93 degrees Celsius, it will take one hour to achieve normal performance. Heat cure will only work on small masses of Loctite 956. When application is completed, excess adhesive needs to be removed from equipment and work area before it hardens. Industrial solvents or denatured alcohol may be used in removing the uncured adhesive. Service temperature of Loctite EA 956 is 149 degrees Celsius per ASTM D1002.
Reading and understanding the Loctite EA 956 MSDS is important before handling this material. The product is epoxy based which means it will need adequate ventilation when applying because the vapors may be toxic. Dispose empty containers because they may retain residue and toxic vapors from the material. Loctite EA 956 will have a shelf life of 1 year when stored at 4 degrees Celsius in its original container. Part B will have the same shelf life regardless of temperature but Part A will vary. Part A stored at 25 degrees Celsius will have a shelf life of 3 months and when it is stored at 32 degrees Celsius, the shelf life decrease to 1 month.
