Loctite 648 is a green liquid, low viscosity, high strength acrylic material that is formulated for bonding cylindrical fitting parts. This advanced retaining material will cure when it is confined without air between close fitting surfaces.
Henkel Loctite 648 is a one component, anaerobic cure, general purpose retaining material that prevents leakage and loosening from vibration and shock. Some of the applications this material is well suited for include sprockets onto gearbox shafts, rotors on electric motor shafts and holding gears. Loctite 648 is positive under UV and can be cured using an activator. The retaining material is resistant to a wide variety of chemicals and solvents including acetone, ethanol, brake fluid, unleaded petrol and motor oil. The rate of cure will depend on the substrate and on the temperature. For the best adhesion properties when using Loctite 648, the substrates need to be cleaned thoroughly using a cleaning solvent. If the retaining material is being used on an inactive metal or the curing speed is slow then it is recommended to use an activator and allow it to dry. This product is not recommended for plastics, particularly thermoplastic materials where stress cracking can result. For disassembly of the Loctite 648 material use heat approximately 250 degrees Celsius and the material will disassemble. Cured material can be removed by soaking it in a Loctite Solvent and using a wire brush.
The proper handling methods and storage of Loctite 648 is extremely important to understand before applying this material. It is recommended to store the product in its sealed, unopened container in a dry location. The ideal storage temperature will be between 8 to 21 degrees Celsius. Anything below 8 and above 21 degrees Celsius can adversely affect the properties of this product. Material that is removed from the container should not be returned because it may become contaminated after use. Loctite 648 is not recommended to be used in pure oxygen systems nor should it be selected as a sealant for strong oxidizing materials and chlorine. For more safety information in regards to this product, refer to the Loctite 648 MSDS.
