Loctite 545 is a medium viscosity, anaerobic cure, purple liquid, thread sealing material. This advanced material is specifically formulated for the locking and sealing of metal pipes and fittings. It will cure in areas that are confined with the absence of air between closely fitted metal surfaces preventing leakage and loosening from shock and vibration. The thread sealing liquid is ABSSM and CFIA approved.
Loctite 545 is a one component, thread locking acrylic liquid formulated to offer lubricity for easy assembly. It has a specific gravity of 1.02 at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and a secondary cure method by using an activator that is designed for this product. Loctite 545 will cure differently depending on the type of substrate used and on the temperature. This advanced thread locking material has excellent resistance to motor oil, unleaded gasoline, brake fluid, ethanol, acetone and water glycol. For the best results, it is highly recommended to clean all surfaces with a Loctite cleaning solvent. Apply a 360 degree bead of material on the threads of the male fitting as well as to the female threads. Properly tightened fittings will begin to seal instantly. To provide maximum pressure and solvent resistances, let the product cure for approximately 24 hours. Once the material is cured, cleaning can be done by using a combination of a wire scrubbing brush and soaking it in a Loctite Solvent.
This advanced thread locking system is not recommended to be used in pure oxygen rich systems and it should never be selected as a sealant for strong oxidizing materials and chlorine. Loctite 545 should be stored in a dry location in its unopened, tightly sealed container. The suggested storage temperature is between 8 to 21 degrees Celsius. Anything higher or lower than the temperatures stated may change the performance properties of the product. It is very important not to return the material back to its container once it is applied. This will reduce the risk of contaminating the product. It is not normally well suited for plastics particularly thermoplastic material where stress cracking may be an issue.
