Huntsman CG-1305 A/B is a pourable, medium density resin/ hardener system that has been designed to aid in creating strong and durable reinforcements throughout aircraft production. The use of this material is not limited to aircraft production, and can also be utilized in other industrial applications that require a low weight, high-strength resin system. Due to a combination of excellent physical and handling properties, CG-1305 A/B is a great choice for potting applications and reinforcing high-stress areas in honeycomb structures. This epoxy syntactic is qualified to BMS 5-28, Type 7, Class 1.
Before the components of the CG-1305 System are mixed together, the resin is white in color, and the hardener is amber. Once combined, the material turns to a shade of off-white. The viscosity, when mixed, is 21,500 cP at 77°F, its gel time is >60 minutes for 60 g mass at 77°F, and its density is 0.90 g/cc max. When mixing the CG-1305 system, 20 parts by weight of hardener should be added to 100 parts by weight of the resin. To ensure the components have been combined properly, mix thoroughly for several minutes before use. For further technical data on this product, please see the Huntsman CG-1305 A/B TDS.
The following cure schedule applies for CG-1305: Cure #1 – 7 days at 77+2°F (25°C ±1°C.) Cure #2 – Gel at room temperature + 90 minutes at 260±10°F (127°C±6°C.) Cure #3 – Gel at room temperature + 60 minutes at 350±10°F (177°C±6°C.) The result of the flammability, burn rate for CG-1305 is 3 (7.6) in./min. (cm/min), max. with a 12 second vertical burn. The weight gained in this material when immersed in TT-S-735 test fluid for 24 hours is 30%, and 40% after 24 hours spent in Mil-M-5606 hydraulic fluid. 60% weight was gained after 24 hours spent in Skydrol 500, and 50% weight was gained after 24 hours in distilled water. When storing Huntsman CG-1305 A/B, the resin and hardener should be kept separate from one another and should be properly sealed in their original containers. Temperatures in the designated storage space should remain between 60-90°F. For mixing purposes, the temperature of the material should be above 65°F, and each separate container should be tightly resealed after it is opened for use. In the case that materials are being kept frozen, they should be stored at a temperature of 0°F (-18°C) or colder. Materials should be completely thawed out at room temperature before they are used. If the previously described storage conditions are followed, CG-1305 A/B will be reusable for up to 12 months after it ships from Huntsman.
The Huntsman’s CG-1305 System is a resin/ hardener epoxy syntactic that allows for strong and lightweight reinforcement of high-stress areas in honeycomb structures. Though it was designed for aircraft production, this material is suitable for potting, and other industrial applications as well.
