Epocast 1628 is a two component, self-extinguishing, non-sag, low density, epoxy syntactic. This product is well suited for edge reinforcing of honeycomb structures. The appearance of part A resin is a soft white paste and part B is yellow colored. Once the two components are mixed together it forms a pale yellow paste. Epocast 1628 A/B has a density of .50 g/cc and the gel time of 60 gms at 25 degrees Celsius is 65 minutes per ASTM-D-2471. The innovative material is qualified to BMS 5-28, Type 28.
The mix ratio is 100 parts by weight of Epocast 1628 A to 25 parts by weight of Epocast 1628 B. It is strongly recommended to mix the two components thoroughly for several minutes to insure a complete and proper mixing of the material. It will cure completely in approximately 48 hours at room temperature and it will gel at room temperature plus 5 hours at 52 degrees Celsius. Epocast 1628 A/B can be spread using a putty knife or towel as well as by pneumatic equipment.
Epocast 1628 is a high quality epoxy synthetic that can be easily machined or sanded after it has cured. The compressive strength once cured at room temperature is 2,800 psi per ASTM-D-695 and the compressive modulus is 230 ksi. Weight gain on immersion for 24 hours at 25 degrees Celsius for distilled water is 3.4 percent, Skydol 500-A is 3.5 percent, Mil-M-5606 hydraulic fluid is 2.5 percent and Mil-S-3136, Type III test fluid is 1.5 percent per ASTM-D-543.
Safety precautions should be taken when handling this material. The synthetic epoxy resin should be stored in a dry location in its tightly sealed container at temperatures between 16 and 32 degrees Celsius. Under these conditions, the hardener and resin will have a shelf life of 6 months from date of shipping from the manufacturer. When mixing together, the recommended temperature of the epoxy should be 18 degrees Celsius. Epocast 1628 is intended for professional and industrial use only. Avoid inhalation, swallowing or coming in contact with eyes and skin. Informative information in regards to the safe handling of this advanced material can be found on the Epocast 1628 MSDS.
