DOWSIL1-4174, formerly Dow Corning 1-4174, is a single component, flowable, gray, thermally conductive adhesive with high tensile strength, and no added solvents. The innovative silicone adhesive comes with 7 mil glass beads (178 micron) allowing for uniform, and easily controlled bond line thickness. DOWSIL1-4174 is the same product as DOWSIL1-4173, but DOWSIL1-4174 includes the 7 mil glass beads. The rapid cure process controlled by temperature, and it will flow, fill, or self-level after dispensing. A key focus of this silicone material is to allow more significant miniaturization, and more reliable power module performance by removing heat.

The composition of DOWSIL1-4174 thermally conductive adhesive is a ceramic filler and silicone polymer. It is suitable for bonding integrated circuit substrates, base plate attach, heat sink attach, adhering lids and housings. Viscosity is 62,300 cP, specific gravity uncured is 2.71. Cure time for DOWSIL1-4174 at 150°C is 20 minutes. At 125°C, it will take 30 minutes to cure and at 100°C 90 minutes. Dielectric constant at 1200 Hz is 5.62, and thermal conductivity is 1.78 W/Mk. DOWSIL1-4174 Gray produces no by-products during the curing process. This allows the product to be well suited for applications that have deep sections and complete confinement. Substrates excellent for bonding with this silicone include epoxy laminate boards, metals, ceramics, reactive metals, and filled plastics. DOWSIL1-4174 Adhesive will draw out heat, leaving in performance and reliability. The Material is not resistant to long periods of solvent exposure. Temperature range the silicone is operational is between -45 to 200°C for long periods of time.
