Dow Corning TC-5121 is a non-curing, flowable, thermally conductive compound. This advanced material offers outstanding thermal conductivity and low thermal resistances. It is specifically designed for thermal interface for CPU’s and other devices. The grease like silicone material utilizes advanced treating agents to help reduce pump out. Small filler size enables excellent thermal performance with a thin bondline and there is no need for ovens or curing.
Dow Corning 5121 can increase reliability because it will heat flow away from electronic components. This product has a viscosity of 80075 Cp and the specific gravity of it uncured is 4.2. Thermal conductivity is 2.5 W/mK and the non-volatile content is 99.9%. Dow Corning TC-5121 is heavily filled with heat conductive metal oxides promoting low bleed, high thermal conductivity and high temperature stability. Dielectric strength is 75 volts/mil and the dielectric constant at 1 kHz is 19.61.
Application methods that can be used include stencil print, screen printing or by dispensing. Once Dow Corning 5121 is applied, it is recommended to allow it to dry open to the air for approximately 24 hours before assembling. Drying allows the small amount of carrier fluid in the grease to evaporate which will improve thermal performance. This material is capable of resisting changes in consistency at temperatures up to 177 degrees Celsius. While resisting changes in consistency, it will maintain a positive heat sink seal to improve heat transfer from the electronic device to heat sink chassis. This is what causes the overall efficiency of the devices.
When dealing with any kind of chemical, you must understand the handling precautions, disposal methods and storage. It is strongly recommended to read the Dow Corning TC-5121 MSDS before applying. Dow Corning TC-5121 will have a shelf life of 24 months in its original container. Containers need to be closed tightly air space minimized. This product will survive solvent exposure but only splash or intermittent exposure. Testing should be done to confirm the performance after solvent exposure. Dow Corning 5121 is not suitable for pharmaceutical or medical applications. For more information, contact an experienced Krayden representative will answer any questions that you may have.
