Dowsil 9186 is one component, room temperature cure, flowable, fast tack free, clear or white silicone adhesive. It has reduced potential for silicone volatiles and is able to flow, fill or be self-leveling after dispensing. The specific gravity of the cured adhesive is 1.04 and the viscosity is 66100 cP. It has a tack-free time of 9 minutes at 25 degrees Celsius and the tensile strength is 335 psi. This advanced adhesive is ideal for sealing electronic equipment and modules as well as fixing parts on circuit boards.
Dowsil SE 9186 has an elongation of 555 percent and the dielectric strength is 575 Volts/mil per JIS K 6249. The silicone adhesive is capable of being dispensed manually or using an automated system for higher volumes. The adhesives properties will up to 90 percent within 24 to 72 hours of application. The curing will begin from the exposed surface inward at a rate of .25 inch per seven days. The curing process is all dependent on the moisture in the air. Accelerating the cure of Dow 9186 may be done by applying mild heat below 140 degrees Fahrenheit
When applying Dowsil 9186, all surfaces should be thoroughly degreased and cleaned ensuring all oil, dirt, dust, and debris don’t contaminate the properties of the adhesive. If possible, light surface abrasion is recommended because it endorses good cleaning and increases the surface area for bonding. The working temperature range of Dow 9186 is between 49 to 392 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time. Any temperature higher or lower than the one stated may cause the performance and behavior of the adhesive to be altered. The higher the temperature, the amount of time Dow SE 9186 will be useable decreases significantly.
Dowsil 9186 is not suitable to be exposed to liquids, fuel or vapor solvent. It is only intended to survive a splash or sporadic exposure, anything more will ruin the integrity of the adhesive. When handling any adhesives or sealants it is important to understand the limitations and handling precautions. If stored at 25 degrees Celsius, Dowsil SE 9186 will have a shelf life of 15 months. The adhesive needs to be stored in its tightly sealed container avoiding any contact with moisture. It has not been tested or deemed suitable for medical or pharmaceutical uses. More information in regards to the physical and health hazard of this material can be found on the Dow 9186 MSDS.
