Dow SE 4486 is a one-part, moisture cure, thermally conductive silicone adhesive. This material is designed to provide efficient thermal transfer for the cooling of electronic modules including home appliance devices. It has also be used in smart meter applications. The silicone is semi-flowable with good adhesion to a wide variety of substrates. It has a fast tack-free time and the elongation is 43 percent.
The viscosity of Dow SE 4485 CV is 19,600 cP and the fluidity is 60mm. The specific gravity of cured material is 2.6 and the tack-free time at 25°C is 570 psi. Unprimed adhesion, lap shear strength, glass to glass is 240 psi. Durometer Shore A is 81 and the thermal conductivity is 1.6 W/mK. RTV thermally conductive materials will cure into low stress, a durable elastomer with a noncorrosive by-product when exposed to moisture. Dow SE 4486 acts as a thermal bridge to remove heat from the device allowing it to operate more efficiently and have better reliability.
Dowsil SE 4486 Thermally Conductive Adhesives Features and Benefits:
- Polydimethylsiloxane Adhesive
- Thermally Conductive Filler
- One Part
- Semi-Flowable
- Fast Tack-Free Time
- Good Adhesion
Dow SE 4486 Thermally Conductive Adhesive provides low thermal resistance, high thermal conductivity and it can achieve a thin bond line thickness which can help to improve the heat transfer of heat away from the device. The adhesive is can usually be cured at room temperature in a range of 0 to 80 percent of relative humidity. 90 percent of their full physical properties can be attained within 4 to 7 hours. Dow SE 4486 will typically cure 0.25 inch per 7 days. This product will have good unprimed adhesion to many reactive metals, glass, ceramics, and some laminates. Good adhesion cannot be expected on non-reactive metal substrates or non-reactive plastic surfaces.
Before handling, reading and understanding the Dow SE 4486 TDS is strongly recommended. Operational temperature is between -45 to 200°C for long periods of time. Anything above or below will make the material become more complex requiring additional consideration. For low-temperature performance, thermal cycling to conditions of -55°C may be possible for some products. The adhesive should be stored in its original container tightly sealed to avoid contamination. Shelf life will be stated on the label. Dow SE 4486 has not been tested nor deemed suitable to use for medical or pharmaceutical uses.
