Dowsil CC-2571 is a single component, transparent, low viscosity conformal coating without UV dye. This innovative material cures at room temperature but it can be accelerated by using mild heat. It requires atmospheric moisture to cure. Once cured, it becomes a tough, elastoplastic, resilient, abrasion resistant surface. The conformal coating has excellent adhesion which allows it to be used with many low solids, no clean and no lead solders.
Dow CC-2571 Conformal Coating has a viscosity of 75 cP and the specific gravity of the cured material is 1.11. It will have a tack-free time of 15 minutes at 25 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is increased to 60 degrees Celsius with 15 percent relative humidity, tack-free time will drastically decrease to 1.3 minutes. Dielectric constant at 100 Hz is 2.74 and the dissipation factor at 100 Hz is 0.0042. This product can be used for coating over rigid and flexible circuit boards in LED lighting display applications. Application methods include spray, brush, flow, dip and automated pattern coating.
Time it takes to reach a tack-free state can be reduced with heat. Typical cure schedule for 3 mil of coatings is 10 minutes at room temperature followed by 10 minutes at 60° C. If bubbling occurs, allow additional time for the solvent to flash off prior to oven cure. The pot life of Dowsil CC-2571 is dependent on the application method chosen. The less time the conformal coating is exposed to moisture, the longer the pot life. With most conformal coatings, adhesion will typically lag behind cure. It is strongly recommended to apply this material on a clean and dry substrates. A primer should be used on low energy surfaces to promote adhesion.
Understanding the Dow CC-2571 MSDS is strongly recommended before using. The operational temperature range for this conformal coating is between -45 to 200° Celsius. The higher the temperature, the shorter amount of time that the material will be usable. It may be possible for low temperature thermal cycling conditions such as -55° Celsius. This product is very similar to Dow 1-2577 but does not contain UV dye.
