Dowsil 738 is a one component, RTV silicone rubber formulated for continuous use in temperatures ranging from -62 to 180 degree Celsius. The innovative silicone rubber has good dielectric properties and is easy to handle with no heating or mixing. ents of MIL-A-46146 Type I. The UL listing for service temperature is 180 degrees Celsius where elongation is not vital. 738 will for a bond to most clean surfaces including glass, metals, silicone and vulcanized rubber. Bond strength will differ and be inconsistent unless a primer is used. The electrical sealant will begin to skin over in approximately 20 minutes at room temperature. The curing time will be about 24 hours at room temperature and 50 percent relative humidity to a depth of 70 mils. The curing time will depend on the thickness of the material and it will cure inward from the surface into the middle. Dowsil 738 sealant is supplied in 90 ml tubes, 10.01 fl oz cartridges and 4.5 gal pails.
It is extremely important to understand the proper application methods, safe handling and limitations of Dowsil 738 sealant. This advanced material will have a shelf life of 7 months from the date of manufacture if it is stored in its air tight container at a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. This product is not tested or represented as suitable for pharmaceutical or medical uses. It is not recommended to use this sealant on surfaces that need to be painted, under water and in confined spaces. The main reason this product is not capable of performing in air tight spaces is because it needs atmospheric moisture to cure.
