Dowsil 3-8264 is flowable, self-priming, heat cure, two component encapsulant. This innovative material has low viscosity allowing for it to flow and fill narrow spaces around complex substrates and it will cure rapidly at moderate temperatures. It is well suited for encapsulating applications that require low heat temperature cure and good primerless adhesion.
Dow 3-8264 has a mixed viscosity of 3350 cP and will allow a working time of 5 hours at 25 degrees Celsius. Heat cure time at 70 degrees Celsius is approximately 150 minutes and the cure time at 100 degrees Celsius speeds the process to 30 minutes. This advanced materials uncured specific gravity is 1.33 and the Durometer Shore A is 44. Dowsil 3-8264 is supplied as a two component liquid kit, once mixed thoroughly together it will transform into a flexible elastomer. Mixing can be accomplished either manually or automated using 1:1 ratio. Dow silicone encapsulants are formulated to cure without exotherm at a constant rate regardless of thickness or degree of confinement.
The operational temperature range of Dowsil 3-8264 is between -45 to 200 degrees Celsius for an extended period of time. Once the material is exposed to heat below or above the temperature spectrum performance and behavior will be more complex in applications. This silicone encapsulant is primerless needing only great cleaning for adhesion. Dow 3-8264 Dielectric strength is 425 volts/mil and the Dielectric Constant at 100 Hz is 3.31. Volume resistivity is 2.38E+14 ohm*cm and dissipation factor at 100 Hz is .007. This self-priming encapsulant has excellent electric properties making it well suited for electronic assemblies.
When handling any adhesive, sealant or encapsulant it is very important to understand the risks, proper handling and storage of the materials. Dowsil 3-8264 will have a shelf life of 9 months when stored at 25 degrees Celsius. Precautions need to be made to ensure that moisture is prevented from contacting the silicone. Containers need to be tightly sealed with limited head or air space. Partially filled containers of Dow Corning 3-8264 need to be purged with nitrogen or dry air. More safety information can be obtained by contacting a Krayden Representative or referring to the Dow 3-8264 MSDS.
