Dowsil 3-6121 is a two component, flowable, heat cure, translucent encapsulant with good strength and performance in low temperature extremes. This advance material has high tensile and tear strength and it will retain excellent properties at -65 degrees Celsius. It offers a rapid, versatile cure processing controlled by temperature and it will be highly reliable in cold temperature. The main purposes of Dow 3-6121 Elastomer includes low temperature encapsulating applications or optical applications requiring high refractive index.
Viscosity of the mixed material is 19250 cP and the working time at 25 degrees Celsius is less than two hours. Heat cure at 100 degrees Celsius will take 20 minutes and at 150 degrees Celsius, the cure time will be cut in half to 10 minutes. Dowsil 3-6121 Elastomer cured has a specific gravity of 1.12 and the tensile strength is 625 psi. Elongation of the material is 275% and the tear strength (Die B) us 60 ppi. Dielectric strength is 450 volts/mil and the volume resistivity is 4.15 E+14 ohm*cm.
Dowsil 3-6121 is supplied in two part liquid component kits. When the two components are thoroughly mixed together, the mixture will cure to a flexible elastomer which is excellent for protecting electronic applications. This encapsulant will cure without exotherm at a constant rate regardless the thickness or confinement. Dowsil 3-6121 will need priming if adhesion is required. The material is operational temperature is between -45 to 200 degrees Celsius for prolonged periods of time. It can be exposed to lower and high temperatures for a short period of time. Before handling, it is strongly recommended to read and understand all the safety precautions stated on the Dow 3-6121 MSDS. Shelf life will be clearly stated on the products label. When stored at or below room temperature in its tightly sealed container, the shelf life will be 18 months from the date it was manufactured. Special precautions need to be taken to prevent moisture from coming in contact with the material. Dow 3-6121 silicone encapsulant was not tested nor deemed suitable to be used on any medical or pharmaceutical applications.
Dow is well renowned for developing some of the highest quality silicone products that are used in a variety of industries. The low temperature properties of the Dow 3-6121 Encapsulant and the higher refractive index than most typical dimethyl silicones offer is what sets Dow Silicone apart from competitors. It is a two component, translucent encapsulant with good strength and performance in low temperatures.
