DOWSIL 3-4207 is a two part, green, room temperature cure, tough gel with UV indicator. This advance material has a UL 94 V-1 flammability rating allowing it to be considered for uses requiring added flame resistance. The toughened gel provides additional mechanical strength and the UV indicator allows for automated inspection. Individual parts are yellow and blue to reduce potential for loading errors. When the product is properly mixed together it forms a green translucent gel.

Dow 3-4207 Dielectric Tough Gel part A has a viscosity of 425 cP and Part B has a viscosity of 400 Cp. It will take approximately 1.5 hours to cure at 25 degrees Celsius and the gel time will be 9.8 minutes at the same temperature. If time is an issue, heat cure at 50 degrees Celsius will reduce the curing time to 9.8 minutes and 100 degrees Celsius cuts the cure time to 3 minutes. Dow Corning 3-4207 has a Durometer Shore 00 of 59 and an unprimed adhesion, 180 peel strength of 3 ppi.
Gels cure in place to form a soft, self-healing, resilient encapsulant. Cured gels retain much of the stress relief and self-healing qualities of a liquid while providing the dimensional stability of an elastomer which is increasingly needed for delicate components. Dow 3-4207 has a temperature range between -45 to 200 degrees Celsius for long periods of time. At both the high and low spectrum of the temperature range the behavior of the material may become complex and need additional testing for specific applications. The high the temperature the shorter the material will remain usable. Dow Corning offers their gels in batch-matched kits, typically in 210ml dual cartridges, one gallon pains, five gallon pails and 55 gallon drums. It is suggested to read the Dowsil 3-4207 Dielectric Tough Gel MSDS to understand the proper storage and handling methods before using. The product will have a shelf life of 12 months when it stored in its unopened container at 25 degrees Celsius. This silicone material has not been tested suitable for medical and pharmaceutical applications. Materials, chemicals, curing agents and plasticizers can inhibit the cure of addition cure adhesives. It is strongly recommended to conduct a small scale compatibility test to ascertain suitability in a given application.
