Dow Corning 3-1944 RTV is a one part, translucent, flowable, conformal coating that has good flame resistance. The coating has an added UV indicator that allows for automated inspection. This material will cure as a soft, low stress elastomer. It is capable of being cured in room temperature with optional heat acceleration depending on your application. Some of the main applications of this advanced material include pin/solder joint coverage, thin section encapsulation, and spot protection of pins or other devices.
Dow Corning 3-1944 Conformal Coating has a viscosity of 63,775 cP and a specific gravity of 1.03 cured. When handling this product there is not mixing required and it will be able to flow, fill and self-level after dispensing. This product is formulated as a conformal coating but it also offers good adhesion allowing it to be used with many low-solids and no-lead solders. Tack-free time is 14 minutes at 25 degrees Celsius. As the heat is increased to 60 degrees Celsius with relative humidity of 15 percent, the tack-free time will decrease to 0.5 minutes.
Elongation of Dow Corning 3-1944 is 145% and it has peel strength of 3 N/cm. This advanced product can be considered for uses with IPC, UL or Mil Spec requirements. The conformal coating can be applied by brushing, flow coating, syringe or needle. Dielectric strength is 525 volts/mil and the volume resistivity is 1.6 E15 ohm*cm. Dow Corning 3-1944 has a UL Flammability Classification of 94 V-0, a Mil Specification MilI-46058C Amend 7and Agency listing IPC-CC-830B, UL746E. With RTV coatings, adhesion will lag behind cure and may take approximately 72 hours to build in some coatings.
Understanding the risks, limitations, usable life and how to properly store this material is extremely important. It is strongly recommended to read the Dow Corning 3-1944 MSDS. This product is not suitable to be used for pharmaceutical or medical uses. If properly stored in its original container at room temperature, it will have a shelf life of 12 months. Special precaution needs to be taken to ensure that the conformal coating is prevented from coming in contact with moisture in its container. Long term operational temperatures range from -45 to 200 degrees Celsius. -55 degrees Celsius may be possible performance of your parts and assemblies need to be verified.
