Cytec Conathane EN-2521 Polyurethane Resin System
Ideal for potting applications where exceptional performance is required in temperatures ranging from -65 to 130°C, Cytec EN-2521 is a two component, filled polyurethane resin system. It is an excellent choice for encapsulation of strain sensitive circuitry, modules, coils, and transformers. This innovative product offers good electrical properties and has excellent resistance to thermal shock and excellent resistance to water.
Cytec 2521 specific gravity at 25°C is 1.53, tensile strength is 1600 psi and elongation is 40%. Castings made from this product have excellent resistance to salt water, mild acids and bases and to all aliphatic hydrocarbons. It is not resistant to chlorinated hydrocarbons, aromatic or oxygenated solvents. Cytec EN-2521 can be cured at room temperature or at elevated temperatures without the formation of voids. Room temperature cure will take 7 days, and heat cure at 80°C will take approximately 16 hours.
Mix ratio is 20 of Part A to 100 of Part B by weight. It is recommended to mix the material thoroughly in a metal or glass container using metal or glass stirrers. At 25°C, a good pouring viscosity (4,000 cps) of a 400-gram mass is maintained for 60-70 minutes. This material will have a working life of 80 minutes at room temperature and 15 minutes at 60°C. Cytec EN-2521 is available in 1-gallon, 5-gallon, and 55-gallon drum units. For more information, ask an expert at Krayden, a certified distributor of Cytec.
The shelf life of Cytec 2521 is 18 months from the date of manufacture. Part A and B should be stored at temperatures of 18 to 29°C in their tightly closed containers. The resin system is available in tan or black. Handling this product requires a thorough review of the Cytec EN- 2521 MSDS. Cytec recommends wearing clean gloves when handling potting materials to decrease skin contact. The lower vapor pressure of this material greatly reduces the vapor hazard and toxicity.
Cytec EN-2521 is a two part filled polyurethane resin system designed for potting applications. Offers low exotherm, low shrinkage, very low stresses during cure, and very good electrical properties. More information about the properties can be found on the Cytec EN-2521 Technical Data Sheet. Disposal of materials must be in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
