The story:
Krayden partnered with a company specializing in the transportation industry. They were using a competing product but wanted something with faster working time and a stronger bond. Enter ITW’s Plexus brand.
What is the application? | The customer is bonding PC/PBT to PC/PBT for their Peterbilt truck fender skirt. |
What issues was the end-user having? | They were using a competing product but wanted something with faster working time and a stronger bond. |
What material was used to solve the issue? | Plexus AO420 |
Why was the material chosen for the application? | A0420 has a 4-6 minute working time which is right in the sweet spot of what they wanted, tensile strength was above the competing product, and it has a long history in transportation applications. |
Why did this material work better than other materials? | A0420 was the only material tested against the competing product, based on the working time, substrates, & strength. |
Was this material lower cost than other materials? | Yes. |
Did this material improve the process? | Yes, AO420 improved their process throughput allowing them to get more pieces done in fewer days. |
Savings to end-users in the cost of material or process improvement? Time, $ or both? | I believe the material cost was about the same A0420 may have saved them a bit since less per part but the main improvement was time. Their throughput increased which was the main area of savings. |
What industry/market was this material used in? | Transportation market, customer forms and build different plastics for the end-user. |
