The durability and strength of this material is dependent on proper pretreatment of the substrates to be bonded. Araldite 2021 adhesive is capable of bonding surfaces effectively with little surface preparation. The strongest and most durable joints are acquired by chemically etching or mechanically abrading the degreased substrates. Before applying the adhesive, it is recommended to clean both substrates with a degreasing agent such as acetone, iso-propanol or other proprietary degreasing agents.

Araldite 2021 can be stored up to 18 months at a temperature of 0 to 8 degrees Celsius in its original sealed container. Applying a layer of Araldite 2021 that is .002 and .004 thick will normally provide the greatest lap shear strength to the joint. The two substrates that are to be bonded should be assembled and joined together and secured in place as soon as the adhesive is applied.
