Araldite 2014 is a two-part, room temperature cure, thixotropic paste adhesive with very low shrinkage. The main purpose for this adhesive is to be used for bonding metals, electronic components, GRP structures or other items where the temperature is higher than normal in an aggressive environment. The durability and strength of the adhesive is dependent on the proper surface treatment of the substrates needed to be bonded. The surfaces need to be cleaned and degreased to remove all the traces of oil, grease and dirt. The most durable and strongest joints are obtained by chemically etching or mechanically abrading the surfaces. The lap shear strength will depend on the material that is being bonded.
Araldite 2014 A is a beige paste that needs 100 parts by weight and Araldite B is a grey paste that needs 50 parts by weight, when mixed thoroughly together it creates a grey thixotropic paste. The adhesive can be applied either manually or robotically. A layer of Araldite 2014 epoxy .002 to .004 inches thick will give the greatest lap shear strength to the joints being bonded. The pot life of 100 grams of material is approximately 80 minutes at a temperature of 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the mixture is applied the joints should immediately secured in a fixed position to allow it to cure. It will take approximately 3 hours for the adhesive to cure at a temperature of 73 degrees Fahrenheit. The shelf life of Araldite 2014 is roughly 3 years between temperatures of 36 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Expiration date will be listed on the label. It is extremely important to understand the proper application methods and any potential health risks this material may cause. For more information regarding this material, refer to the Araldite 2014 MSDS.
