Araldite 2013 is a metallic colored, two component, low shrinkage, epoxy paste adhesive. This advanced material is suitable for vertical applications and it is capable of bonding a wide variety of substrates. The epoxy is room temperature curing and has good chemical and environmental resistance. It is specifically designed for metal bonding but it is also suitable for bonding other materials such as glass, rubbers, rigid plastics and ceramics.
2013 A comes as a soft grey paste and 2013 B is beige in color, once mixed together the color of the adhesive is grey. A 100 gm of product at 25 degrees Celsius will have a pot life between 50 to 80 minutes. It has a thixotropic viscosity at 25 degrees Celsius and the mixed product has a specific gravity ca. 1.2. The durability and strength of Araldite 2013 Adhesive will be dependent on the pretreatment and the type of substrates being bonded. Before bonding, the joints and surfaces should be cleaned in order to remove an trace of grease, dirt and oil. The mixing ratio of this advanced product is 100 parts by weight of Araldite 2013/A to 60 parts by weight of Araldite 2013/B.
A layer of .05 to .10 thick is highly recommended to provide the greatest lap shear strength to the joint. The material can be applied robotically or manually to dry pretreated surfaces. Once the product is applied, the joints should be held together securely in a fixed position to ensure a strong bond. It will take approximately 17 hours of cure time at 10 degrees Celsius to reach lap shear strength greater than 1MPa. It will take 27 hours at 10 degrees Celsius to reach lap shear strength greater than 10MPa. When the temperature is increased, the cure time to reach lap shear strength will decrease.
It is strongly recommended to understand the proper handling and safety precautions when using this material. When stored between 2 to 40 degrees Celsius, Araldite 2013 adhesive will have a shelf life of 3 years when stored in a sealed container. The expiration date will be clearly stated on the label. All tools should be washed with hot water and soap before the adhesive has time to cure. The removal of the cured residues will be extremely difficult to remove and may become a time consuming operation. For more information in regards to the safety precautions using this product refer to the Araldite 2013 MSDS.
