Dow Corning 1-2620 is a low-VOC conformal coating designed specifically as a protective coating for solar cell modules. This high quality material has a lower viscosity than other conformal coatings and it has excellent abrasion resistance. When the translucent liquid cures, it becomes a clear elastoplastic resin film. The main purpose of this material is for solar cells and modules but it can also be used to repair cuts, scratches or abrasions. It also has a UL flammability classification of 94 V0, V1.
Dow Corning 1-2620 Low VOC is a one component, RTV silicone resin, self-priming material well suited for applications requiring abrasion and resistance and toughness. This advanced material can be room temperature cured or it can be accelerated with mild heat providing a faster cure time. When cured, it provides a firm dry surface allowing for better handling. Dow Corning 1-2620 provides excellent dielectric properties while resisting humidity and other harsh environmental elements. The pot life of this advanced conformal coating will be dependent on the application method. To extend the pot life it is recommended to minimize the exposure to moisture by using dry air or dry nitrogen blanketing whenever possible. A typical cure schedule for 3 mil coating will be 10 minutes at room temperature followed by 10 minutes at 80 degrees Celsius. For a full room temperature cure of Dow Corning 1-2620 it will take approximately 60 minutes. This product is formulated to provide excellent adhesion to a variety of electronic substrates. RTV coatings typically lag and may take up to 72 hours to build a strong coating.
When handling Dow Corning 1-2620 it is extremely important to understand all of the correct application methods and the dangers of using this material. It can be applied by brush, flow, spray, dip or automated pattern coatings. Packaging of the conformal coating is available in bladder packs, 500ml bottles, 1 gallon and 5 gallon pails. Dow Corning 1-2620 Low VOC has a shelf life of 24 months from date of manufacture when it is stored in its original, unopened container at room temperature.
